A little bit of this and a little bit of that
I just spent the last two hours preparing for tomorrow’s crafts with the kids… and I only have two kids to prepare for. How do kindergarten teachers manage?! Anyway, I’m excited about them. They should be a lot of fun to put together! This post is going to a hodge podge of things…
A Mess Worth Making
That is, when it comes to getting the kids to eat healthier! Ever since I bought Jessica Seinfeld’s Deceptively Delicious, I’ve been trying to “sneak” in some orange or green “stuff” into their meals… Like pureed carrots or sweet potatoes mixed in with their mac and cheese (kid-approved), pureed spinach in brownies (not so popular with the kids… or adults), chick pea cookies (we all love these), and pureed pumpkin in their pancakes (makes them a bit dense, but it tastes okay.) Our latest project has been getting them to try different fruits (they’re stuck on apples, strawberries, and watermelon right now) and drink more calcium. So we’ve been making fruit smoothies like crazy. Our recipe is pretty simple:
1 cup frozen fruit
1 cup plain organic yogurt
1 Tbs. sugar
(For strawberry smoothies, I also add in a 1/2 cup of orange juice)
The other day, we made strawberry and blueberry smoothies. Calvin enjoyed helping me by operating the blender. And they both enjoyed drinking their smoothies… and smothering it all over their bodies… (we stripped them down so their clothes wouldn’t get stained)
Nesting
The nesting instinct is definitely starting to get a bit out of hand. This morning, I had a sudden “urge to purge”, label everything, and clean and scrub some bottles for my kitchen countertop cooking essentials (oil, wine, soy sauce, salt, etc.)
I think the little tree tags in the last picture (I used them to label the bins in my linen closet) are so cute. You can download them for free here.
My very own
I finally have my very own sewing machine! Jeremy was kind enough to take some money out of his “fun fund” to get me this. I’ve wanted one so badly for so long and was planning on taking it out tonight but ran out of time. I’m so excited and will definitely be posting more about my adventures with this machine (making pillows in 7th grade home-ec was a looong time ago…)
