Rise and Shine!

For a while now, I've been doing my own version of "morning circle" for my children (Calvin 3 years and Charissa 2 years). They love the "Tell Me About Your Day" velcro calendar where they get to put up the date and decide on today's weather. In addition, we review the days of the week and months of the year, name the four seasons, count to 20 in English, count to 10 in Chinese (my feeble attempt to teach them some Mandarin!), review the alphabet, and just today, learn a Bible verse. It wasn't until recently that I felt Calvin was verbally ready to start memorizing verses. But thanks to an awesome Sunday School program at Church, he was more than ready and able! Our very first verse was Colossians 3:20 which reads:
Children, obey your parents in everything. For this pleases the Lord.
I found a list of simple verses put to song and sign language on this site. They are perfect for both of my kids - familiar in tune, entertaining in motion, and simple enough to remember. Since we've decided to put our kids through the public school system, I think it's even more urgent and important to start now in helping them store God's words in their hearts:
Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Ephesians 6:10-18
